She is a graduate of the university of Lagos {UNILAG} Mrs Essien earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education from UNILAG in1988. Before then, she started her early schooling at Ibadan City Council {ICC}, Eleta and completed at Lafia Institute, Mokola, Ibadan in 1965, acquiring the First School Leaving Certificate. Between 1966 and 1970, she obtained the West African School Certificate after studying. at Vejide Girls Gramma school, Molete, Ibadan. Thereafter, between 1976 and 1977, she obtained the Teachers Grade II Certificate at Muslim Teachers Training College, Randle Avenue, Surulere, Lagos.

POLITICAL CAREER
Her Political experiences and role started through her keen interest in politics. of our great Nation during the Second Republic with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, through to the social Democratic Party {SDP}. She had been a front runner in pro-democratic rallies in Lagos, Warri and Port Harcourt, just to mention few, discussing with her fellow country men and women. She was also the president of NNPC Housewives Association, galvanizing both wives and husbands to join ranks and encourage democratic values. This did not go without sacrifice as among others led to the early retirement of her husband from Government service. Hon. Omolola Rashidat Essien has identified herself with the people of Lagos state and especially with the people of Lagos Mainland. Her will, modesty and courage to serve made her a leader in Afenifere Unity Forum {AUF} both at Local Government and at State levels. She has been a member of the Elders Advisory Committee since 1992 at the Local Government level. In 2002, she was appointed the Executive Secretary of Ikeja Local Government during which period she received numerous awards for her achievements and enough to convince a lay man that 'what a man cannot do, a woman can do better'. She became the Vice Chairman of Mainland Local Government from Novevember,2011 to 2014 and worked closely with the Chairman and assisting the Chairman in provision 0f social, economic and welfare programs for the people of Mainland Local Government. In November 2014, she was appointed.as the Executive Secretary Lagos Mainland Local Governet to perform duties as assigned by HIS Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State . She was elected as the Executive Chairman Lagos mainland Local Government in 2017= 2021 first term. She was Re-elected in 2021 as Executive Chairman which hold till date.
